The central part of the country, where Tuscany is located, is considered one of the most beautiful regions of Italy. Characteristic for this region are green, beautiful hills famous for vineyards and olive groves. It is in the Tuscan sun that the best grapes and olives ripen, the taste and aroma of which can be found in the local fine wines and excellent oils known all over the world.

Tuscany is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. The Etruscans developed agriculture and viticulture in these areas. Then the local land was adapted by the Greeks who came here with their own seedlings. These areas were also under the rule of the Romans, who built a network of roads enabling trade with other regions and countries.

Tuscan wines and olive oil

The most exclusive Tuscan wine is Brunello di Montalcino - high-quality, selected wine from the Siena area. This is one of the most expensive Italian wines, produced exclusively from the Sangiovese grape variety, which matures for up to 10 years.

In some wines, Sangiovese grapevines are additionally combined with other varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Syrah. Most often they are made of Chianti or Chianti Classico . The name of this wine comes from the Tuscan hills. The wine produced there is dry, intensely ruby red and enriched with a light note of the scent of violets.

Most wines made from grapes ripening in the Chianti hills are marked with the symbol "Gallo Nero" (black rooster), which guarantees the authenticity of the wines from this region. Chianti and Chianti Classico wines are distinguished by the best, precisely selected blend of grapes , as well as long aging, which is at least 27 months.

Other Tuscan wines, valued for their excellent taste, include: Vernaccia of San Gimignano , Orcia, Vino Nobile of Montepulciano and Brunello of Montalcino. White wines are also produced in Tuscany, although they are not as famous as red wines. The most famous of them is Vernaccia di San Gimignano with a crisp, dry taste, made from Vernaccia grapes.

Tuscany is a region also associated with the production of olive oil . As with wine, Chianti is the most famous production area. The taste of the oil is influenced by the rocky soil, the appropriate distance from the salty sea breeze and the young age of the trees.

The oil produced in Chianti is usually deep green with a hint of gold, and the taste can be felt with the aromas of herbs, artichoke, dried fruit and almonds. In Tuscany, such types of oil are grown as Leccino, Frantoio, Moraiolo, Pendolino .

Green Elba
Today it is hard to imagine that exile to a beautiful island covered with Mediterranean vegetation can be a punishment. For Napoleon, however, it was quite painful, given that he was an ambitious person and, if he could, he would control several places at once, instead of being stuck on a piece of land surrounded by water. Meanwhile, it is enough to get to know this piece of land to envy the French emperor more than sympathize. Elba is the largest of the Tuscan Islands archipelago and the third largest island in Italy. It is situated on the border between the Mediterranean and the Ligurian Sea, and is approx. 10 km away from the coast. The long (almost 147 km) coastline attracts thousands of people every year for whom vacation in Italy is the time of sunbathing. There are beautiful beaches with golden sand and rocky, unfriendly to bare feet. The first group includes, among others Marina di Campo , Fetovaia or Cavoli, and to the second - Capo Bianco and Le Ghiaie. There are many steep cliffs on Elba, natural obstacles preventing you from reaching the wildest places by non-sea routes. The island teases the tourist this way, both tempting and demanding. The persistent ones are rewarded with views of picturesque coves, colorfully colored cliffs and lush greenery. Elba is also a place with the atmosphere of a fishing village. It is loved by divers, both beginners, who can explore, for example, the Pomonte wreck, lying on the bottom at a depth of 10 meters, as well as professionals. They prefer places like Capo Stella , where smooth-skinned moray eels swim between the red coral. On land, tourists spend their time equally interesting - on excursions, mountain climbing and a number of other activities (including a cable car trip to the top of Monte Capanne).
