Allergy to the sun

Allergy to the sun – main image

What can spoil a holiday even in an exceptionally beautiful place? Undoubtedly, an itchy rash that attacks exposed areas of the skin can contribute to deteriorating mood. How to fight it?

It may seem that the topic of sun allergy is topical only during summer holidays. Unfortunately, you can also suffer from it in winter - for example, during a stay in December in a place with high temperatures. Without prior preparation, the disease will quickly manifest itself, so instead of a tan, we will bring unsightly marks on the skin from vacation.

What exactly does this "advance preparation" mean? Especially in the context of a disease that cannot be overcome quickly and, what's the worst, keeps coming back over and over again?

Allergy to the sun's rays

Every year, in the season of the coming heat, desperate questions arise online about an itchy rash that attacks exposed areas such as the face, neck, and décolleté. It also often appears on the hands and feet. It not only looks unsightly, making normal functioning difficult (how to hide your hands in the summer?). Its main symptom is unbearable itching . Scratching provides temporary relief - and causes the rash to spread.

In the era of rapid development of medicine, this type of allergy should be quickly diagnosed and treated effectively. If that were the case, however, the web would not be full of questions about how to get rid of the rash and the reproaches of incompetent dermatologists. Of course, when we do develop allergy symptoms - itchy blisters filled with fluid - a visit to the doctor's office is a reasonable solution. But what if we cannot quickly use his help or it is ineffective?

How to overcome a rash?

An allergy resulting from skin contact with the sun's rays is called idiopathic photodermatosis . The best option would be to avoid the rays, but in such a situation, to put it mildly, the vacation would not be very successful. Irritated places can be treated with zinc-containing ointment - it has a drying effect. Some people use hydrogen peroxide to lubricate their lesions. The disadvantage of this method is the intense drying of the skin. When exfoliating, in turn, after-sun cosmetics will help to moisturize it.

It is good to have lime with you on vacation - it is available in pharmacies without a prescription. You can take a double dose, i.e. dissolve 2 tablets in a glass of water. Antihistamines (eg Alertec, Zyrtec) and a drug called Hydrocortisonum are also effective in the fight against allergy.

Beta-carotene in the diet of an allergy sufferer

You can prepare for the fight against allergy in advance and systematically strengthen the body by taking beta-carotene for several months . It is found in carrots, tomatoes, red peppers, pumpkins, as well as oranges, apricots, and peaches.

When on vacation, remember about a cream with a high filter. It's good to buy one with a filter of at least 30 (preferably 50) and lubricate yourself with it before going out in the sun.
