Hanstholm Camping is right in the middle of the very unique nature that characterises Thy’s grand coastal landscape, and has direct access to the North Sea.
Here, you will find the last wilderness in Denmark, and you will experience the justification for the future National park.
The campsite itself has one of the best locations in Denmark and is on a 40 meters high dune peak, nicely sheltered by pine, beech and oak.
Whether you are looking for a cosy, sheltered corner with peace and quiet, a place with a view of the ocean and the sunset, or a place with lots of activity around you, you will find it here.
On the campsite, you will also find:
*Large heated swimming pools
*Good toilet and bathing facilities
*Family spa, sauna and solarium
*Exiting new playgrounds
*Animal pens with goats, ponies and rabbits
*Horse rental with Icelandic horses
*Five minutes to the best bathing beach
*Wireless internet on the entire campsite
*Large roofed barbecue house
*Own grocer’s shop with bakery
The nature around Hanstholm Camping is a conservation area.
From the top of the slope, you can see heathered dunes stretching towards the ocean, as far as the eye can see. Here, you will find abundant flora and fauna.
Several rare herbs have survived here, as the only place in the world. And if you like mushrooms, you do not have to look long to find king boletes, chanterelles or other edible mushrooms.
In the early hours of the morning, you can experience the red deer leaving their sleeping places in outer areas of the campsite.
The light in Hanstholm is quite special. The colourful and sometimes dramatic sunrises and sunsets above the sea have been – and are still – a great inspiration to many painters.
The beach at the foot of the slope is another story in itself. Here, you will find Denmark’s only fossilised coral reef, and with an only slightly trained eye, you will quickly find a fossil or a piece of amber.
Recently, the largest piece of amber ever found in Denmark was found here. It weighs 4.2 kg.
During the summer vacation, the children are the main focus.
The two new playgrounds form a safe setting for many hours of play and activity. This is also the place to meet new friends, if you have not already met them at the swimming pools.
We guarantee a bathing temperature of at least 24 C and a lot of fun in the water and on the water slide.
The new animal pen is a draw for children of all ages.
Here, you can pat a goat, pet a rabbit or groom a pony. All the animals are used to children and they are obviously well-cared-for.
The playroom is for the youngest children. Here, the small children can meet with their parents in cosy surroundings. All the furniture is the right height for children, except for the kitchen, where the adults can make a sandwich or a cup of coffee.
At Hanstholm Camping, we have our own authorised nature guide, who has a daily activity programme that sets the scene for an exiting and educational stay. Read more about this on the activity pages.
There are great conditions for anglers at Hanstholm Camping.
Every year, more than 5000 anglers choose to stay in specially furnished cottages on the campsite, and thus, the site has become the gathering point for anglers in Thy.
The new 300 square metre filleting house is a great setting for spending time together when you come back from the trip to The Yellow Reef and it is time to clean the fish.
In the house, there are also 16 large freezers with good freezing capacity for fast-freezing of the catch.
We would be happy to help you book a place on the fishing cutters.
In the mini-market, you will find the anglers’ own shop, which has all the right equipment, from spinners to pirns and from lines to fish landing nets – and at the right prices.
Here, you will also find everything for your lunch pack as well as beer, wine, water, chocolate and freshly baked bread.
We would also be happy to help you book a place on the cutters that sail to The Yellow Reef.

At Hanstholm Camping, you have the opportunity of bringing out your inner cowboy.
Everyone can ride an Icelandic horse, and we have ten great ones on the campsite, just waiting to get out into the terrain.
We ride in the area called Vigsø Bugt, which with its protected and untamed dune landscape provides the scenery for an unforgettable experience on horseback.
The daily trips are divided into small groups that are adapted to the skills of the riders, which means that everyone can participate, regardless if you like a wild ride or a quiet, romantic sunset ride.
The campsite also has its own skilled instructor.
We have daily rides, including trips in the dunes, bathing on horseback, day-trips with seven hours of riding and sometimes also three-day trips to Bulbjerg with overnight stays and all meals included.
You can also take a riding holiday with us, where you get ”your own horse”, or you can bring your own horse.
See the bottom of the page for more information.
