Construction time two and a half years; new multiline increases line output by more than 100 percent; production output planned to increase to 5,000 units / year
The German caravaning market recently experienced its best November ever, and in Europe caravaning again shows a clear upward trend in registration numbers and popularity. Nevertheless, customers more than ever want to have individualised and highly variable caravans. Following this development, Knaus Tabbert GmbH, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of leisure vehicles, plans to build a new production hall with a so-called multiline at its Hungarian plant in Nagyoroszi.
On Friday, 11 December 2015, the official start of a new era for the Hungarian plant was symbolically celebrated with the ground-breaking ceremony. In the next two and a half years Knaus Tabbert GmbH will invest a total of about Euro 13.5 million in the construction of a new assembly hall that will provide a floor space of more than 10,000 square metres. "Due to capacity and space constraints we are today reaching our production limits at our three plants, and we can therefore fully satisfy the increased demand only with longer delivery times", explains managing director Werner Vaterl. "With this investment we will create the necessary framework conditions for the future that will allow us to on the short term better respond to demand fluctuations on the individual European markets."
The new available space will be used for a so-called multiline with a corresponding production supply area. In the future this will allow the manufacturer to produce caravans, motorhomes, and camper vans on one line – just as required. The extended capacities will make it possible to reduce the production time per vehicle from about 45 minutes today to less than 23 minutes, which means an increase of line output by more than 100 percent. The company therefore plans to increase the production output of the plant in Hungary to 5,000 units per year. In addition to the construction of the new production hall that is scheduled to take one year, there also will be three other construction stages: Early in 2017 body construction will move to the current caravan production area. In the future the required raw material will be supplied and installed directly on the spot, so that finished components can be supplied to the line as modules. The third construction measure concerns cabinetmaking, the material output of which also will be adapted to the new plant layout. At the end of the construction measures the sewing section also will be relocated and will approximately become twice as large in size. The conclusion of these extensive construction measures and the start-up of the new multiline are planned for 2018.
"It is important that this investment is a necessary measure that lastingly ensures a well prepared position of our company in the future. In this respect these construction measures in Hungary certainly will have a medium to long term effect also on our two other plants in Jandelsbrunn and Mottgers", continues Vaterl.
In 2015 Knaus Tabbert GmbH with approximately 250 employees produces about 2,250 camper vans and about 2,430 caravans at the plant in Nagyoroszi. With these figures the company is producing at its maximum capacity limit.
