Expedition camping vehicles

A vahicle for all kind of trips

These cars were created with a view to adventurous people. People, who don’t opt for highways or comfortable campsites. People, who need challenges and dangers, so that they could check the limits of their vehicles, which can hardly be named just motorhomes.

Action Mobil Atacama Zetros from Action Mobil 1 is an expedition vehicle, built on a chassis of the military truck Mercedes-Benz Zetros. This heavyweight vehicle is equipped with a powerful, 326 hp turbo diesel. The car is available with a 9-speed manual transmission or 6-speed fully automatic transmission.

Not only for war

The fact that Zetros is based on a vehicle designed for the army, can be seen everywhere. Depending on the version, it can handle the load of 10 or 16 tons. It won’t either be a problem to fit in there an 80 cm deep water container (after modification - even 110 cm deep!).

Thanks to the body made of fiberglass, polyurethane foam insulation and a double thermal insulation of windows, the vehicle provides comfortable conditions even during a winter expedition to Siberia. However, 6 cm thick walls will effectively secure the interior from unbearable temperatures (both during the cold nights and during hot days).

Action Mobil Company also manufactures expedition vehicles based on Alpine MAN and Scania cars. All are characterized by good, off-road driving properties. Although they might look a bit scary from the outside, inside you will feel like at home. They are, of course, fully equipped with all essential appliances.

The simplicity matters

Man Kat 1 in a version prepared by Enfatec is also very impressive. Here, designers focused not only on the resistance to harsh weather conditions, but above all, on the simplicity of the structure. The idea was to create a car, which can be easily fixed, regardless of whether it breaks down in the desert, or in Alaska. Therefore, the electronics was limited to the minimum.

The car has an 8-cylinder engine with 400 HP. Its displacement amounts 12,793 cc. The vehicle is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. It also has very impressive tires - 14R/20 Michelin XTL. The maximum speed of the car is 120 km/h.

An expedition in American way

A little less scary, but surely attractive is American EarthRoamer XV-LT. The vehicle is based on the chassis of Ford F-550. Its permissible maximum weight amounts almost 9 tons. This car, depending on the version, can accommodate from two up to eight people. The vehicle is available in three lengths, the largest of which has more than 8 meters.

- We were not interested in traveling from one parking to another. We wanted to see the distant lakes in the mountains and exotic desert landscapes – the manufacturer explains on the website. - We wanted to create a vehicle small enough to be able to move smoothly, and large enough to be comfortable. And of course we wanted it to look good!

This car is supposed to be a response to these contradictory expectations – it will work perfectly both on highways and on difficult, bumpy roads. It was important to fit there large water containers and capacious batteries, to provide comfortable conditions even far away from civilization.

It’s a car created without compromise – with the use of carbon fiber composites and other components used in the construction of boats and ships. Currently, there’re over 120 vehicles EarthRoamer XV-LT on the roads, which make them the most popular “overland” vehicles.

Bigger can do more!

However, if for someone such vehicle will be too small, there’s also a version EarthRoamer XV-HD. It's a giant, which can be clearly seen on the picture, on which two vehicles stand side by side.

This truck is based on Ford F-650 and has 46 cm wide tires! The longest version of XV-HD measures approximately 10 m, although it’s only one of ... 24 lengths available. All configurations give as many as 52 possibilities.

According to the manufacturer, EarthRoamer XV-HD is ready to face the biggest challenges on the planet. Even if this is a bit of an exaggeration, it’s ... only a little bit.
