American motorhome - Fleetwood Excursion 2014
American vision of camping may be a little bit different from that to which we are used to. Field conditions may be luxurious, as we shall see getting into the model Fleetwood Excursion, in version with the symbol 2014 (already pointing to the next year).
Actually, it doesn’t have to be specifically this model. All vehicles by Fleetwood look similar, and Excursion is one of the cheaper motorhomes of A class. This one is equipped with a 3-liter diesel engine and the basic version costs about 180 thousand dollars. But who has more cents in his purse, may decide for the model Providence, with a 450 HP engine, which costs over 328 thousand dollars.
But let’s stop here, by the model more accessible for the average American. Bus home, because I think this is how we should call this vehicle, is available in three color variations. It may be beige, gray and white, brown, red and beige or gray, black and white. In each variant the sides have decorative patterns that probably have to make this angular vehicle more dynamic.
Excursion is equipped with fog lights and heated mirrors. Tanks for water and sewage are also heated, and external compartments are highlighted. The bus is available in two lengths, 10 and 11 meters, it doesn’t belong to the longest ones (eg. Providence has 13 meters). However, it can successfully accommodate up to 5 people in quite comfortable conditions.
Inside there’s, of course, everything what’s necessary for an American tour. The equipment for each of the four versions of Excursion is very similar, and the differences boil down to a different interior arrangement. For example, the kitchen can be straight or U-shaped.
The toilet may be located in the same room as the shower, or separately. In each version shower tray has a slightly different shape, but every time it’s big enough to fit even a person who eats only burgers.
You can sleep well on a royal double bed placed in a lockable bedroom at the end of the vehicle, but there’re also additional fold-out beds. There’s only one thing that makes me wonder - neither in the list of equipment, nor in the pictures I found information on the sunroof. Even if there was installed an excellent ventilation system (what manufacturer strongly emphasizes), we won’t see the starry sky.
Inside, the attention is drawn to vinyl floor imitating stone and wood tiles, decorated cupboards and a dresser. Decorative frames of the windows with shutters may cause mixed emotions, and it reminded me a little bit of a style typical for Zakopane. A big fridge with double doors (capacity 226 liters) surely won’t go unnoticed. For an extra charge you can have an ice machine.
The only thing missing is chef
In addition to the standard kitchen equipment you will find 22-liter water heater, water filter system, one or two heaters (depending on model), 3-burner stove, microwave, stainless steel sink. As the manufacturer wrote in his materials, "we added everything except a personal chef."
In the bathroom, apart from the steel sink and a porcelain toilet, we will find for example, a towel holder made of brushed nickel, and a glass-enclosed shower. The bus is also equipped with an electronic control panel and HDMI video system. There’s also a carbon monoxide detector with an alarm and smoke detector.
The standard version goes with mounted tanks for fresh, gray and sewage. The first container holds up to 333 liters! The second has a capacity of 227 liters, while the third - 121 liters. If all this isn’t enough, you may attempt yourself for an additional equipment - for example, central vacuum system, washer-dryer and a 32-inch TV. And all that has to make your trip more enjoyable.
