If you’re sure that it’s high time to buy a motorhome, learn what should you particularly pay attention to.
The decision to buy a camping vehicle shouldn’t be hasty. Purchasing a camper cannot be the first thing from which you will begin your adventure with caravanning. Firstly, you should be sure whether this way of traveling is right for you.
You can try to go on a camping with friends, or better rent a camping vehicle by yourself, to verify your ideas about this type of holidays. Only just when you learn about the benefits and problems, eg. with parking, with the access to some places or with using the vehicle (for example, getting rid of sewage), you'll find out if caravanning is for you.
It’s worth to weight
When buying, it’s worth to use a scale to check the total weight of the vehicle. If you have a driving license category B, the gross weight of a camper along with the accessories, luggage and passengers shouldn’t exceed 3.5 tons. Besides, due to possible additional fees, entry bans and other regulations, the least problems will you encounter, when your camper will weight approximately as much as the passenger car.
The main issues will regard, of course, your preferences toward particular models, but also the purpose of the vehicle. Camper which will be used mainly in the summer should have an air conditioning and a big fridge, but when the vehicle is going to be used in winter, it must have efficient heating. Before you decide to buy, make sure that your car has all the pieces of equipment that you'll need during your travels.
Well-known brand, high power
In case of a used car, it’s good to choose the brand, which parts are readily available for purchase. In this respect, popular models will be better. It’s worth to check whether the size of tires in which the camper is equipped, is still in production.
A powerful engine with lots of gears is also an important element. A large number of available gears will be most useful when driving in the mountains. Besides, it would be great, if you’ll be able to move at the speed typical for a passenger car, and it can be provided only by the car with enough power.
Vehicle condition should be checked in the same way as in the case of passenger cars. But it’s not enough. Pay attention to the joints of individual body parts, as well as windows and sunroofs. These places are particularly exposed to dampness and corrosion. Also note if the camper doesn’t smell musty. All signs of dampness should be considered as serious argument against purchasing of the particular model.
The last important thing is the documentation. The seller should have appropriate documents, not only for the car, but also for all equipment installed in the vehicle.
