From the point of view of caravanner, classic passenger cars don’t look too inviting. Even a compact or mid-class kombi doesn’t meet the holiday expectations of the majority of us. What's more - the purchase of each of them is associated with the expense of about 100 000 PLN (22 000 EUR). By investing half of this amount, we can take advantage of the wide offer of other segment.
Instead of kombi
Kombi-van market is growing continuously for over a decade, next to Fiat Doblo, VW Caddy, Renault Kangoo and Peugeot Partner clients are also attracted by a considerably cheaper replacement. Dacia Dokker (produced since 2012), just like other models of Romanian brand, conquers the market thanks to a very attractive price and proven technology of Renault. It’s worth noting that Dokker, just like Lodgy, use a Renault Kangoo platform.
More for less
As befits a real kombi van for a reasonable European - Dokker received extremely functional and spacious interior. The beauty of Dacia doesn’t have to be discussed – just an aesthetic vehicle to meet high expectations. In the higher versions of equipment, such as Stepway, we can count on body-colored bumpers – additionally the whole body was enriched with plastic covers that protect the car against stone chips. We can forget about xenon headlights. You can get inside through sliding doors placed on both side of the body, while to 800-liter trunk through the wide, hinged gates – by folding rear seat we’ll get a really huge loading space (3300 liters).
Minimum quality, maximum functionality
Low purchase price had an impact on the quality of materials. Hard, trashy plastic doesn’t squeak or rattle when driving on a road that is full of holes. Dashboard design focuses on ergonomics. Clear clocks and plenty of roomy storage compartments are Dokker’s advantages. By paying less than 1000,00 PLN (around 225,00 EUR) more, you will get navigation with color touch screen. Electric front windows and manual air conditioning is also included. There’s a plenty of space both on the front seats as well as on the back seats.
A reasonable choice
Unfortunately - material savings can also be noticed in the acoustics inside the vehicle – when the speed exceeds 100 km/h in the cabin gets uncomfortably loud. Next to the petrol variants we have a well-known 1.5 dCi diesel engine with 90 hp. In addition to a manual five-speed transmission turns out to be an extremely adequate and economical drive. Without excessive loading, the fuel consumption can be easily limited to 4.7 l/100 km, and when towing a lightweight caravan (maximum curb weight of the caravan with an overrun brake amounts 1200 kg) will increase by about two liters. During a peaceful drive, Dokker behaves safely and predictably, only crosswinds are clearly felt by the driver. Passengers’ safety is ensured by ABS, traction control and airbags.
Dacia Dokker Stepway even in the best version of equipment with diesel engine 1.5 dCi costs less than 63,000 PLN (14 000 EUR), which in comparison with the competition turns out to be a very attractive offer. Roomy interior gives us plenty of possibilities of arrangements.
