The best-known caravan brands in Poland come from Germany, but our western neighbors aren’t the only ones who manufacture good caravans. For example, in the Netherlands company Kip Caravan manufactures camping vehicles for 80 years now, giving customers unlimited opportunities to personalize their models.
Company Kip was founded in 1934 and, as it happens in this business, it all started with one person - in this case John Kip - and a caravan built for private use. More and more customers started to order caravans, and in 1949 we could already speak about mass production. But what is particularly interesting, according to the manufacturer as much as 70% of caravans produced so far is still in use!
Comfort for bigger ones
Kip is proud of the quality of its caravans, but it also has other priorities - aerodynamics (which affects the lower fuel consumption) and comfort. The manufacturer wanted tall people to be able to freely use the caravans. Kip worked in a collaboration with the brand Pullman, enriching some versions of their vehicles with premium mattresses.
Currently, the quality is guaranteed a 6-year warranty on the tightness of the body. A three-layer roof using, among others, the advantages of polyester allows to reduce noise, caused by heavy rain, of about 30%. The external skin is supposedly extremely durable to scratches and other damage, which has been achieved thanks to the HPL material. It’s a combination of pulp and two types of resin. The walls and floors, instead of the usual Styrofoam, were filled with the type that is much more resistant to moisture and mechanical damage.
White and grey
In comparison with the largest German manufacturers, Dutch offer seems pretty modest, because it comes down to four basic models and several special editions - on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the brand, or because of the cooperation with Pullman - the manufacturer of mattresses.
The differentiators of Kip Caravan are two models with pop-up roof - Kompakt and Vision. With such convenience, when traveling you can maintain the compact size of the caravan, which is very important for aerodynamics, especially when the car towing the caravan isn’t too big. The second advantage is the height. When parked, the roof can be raised up so the person measuring up to two meters, can stand in the caravan upright. The sleeping places are also adapted for higher people.
The basic model is Kompakt. Its length (excluding the drawbar) amounts 466 cm, while the width - 183 cm. It’s the smallest caravan from Kip, dedicated even to vehicles as a small as Mini. As a standard, the maximum permissible gross weight amounts 1000 kg (in each Kip caravan you can increase this parameter), which with the weight of 755 kg still leaves 245 kg of load capacity. Customers can choose from three interior layouts - in one of them there’re up to three sleeping places.
Model Vision is slightly bigger – its length amounts 474 cm, while the width - 210 cm. It also comes in three versions and three interior layouts. With a weight of 872 kg, permissible gross weight is 1200 kg.
For the manufacturer, the most important model is Isa White, as evidenced by the fact that this particular caravan has been chosen as the base for the special anniversary edition. This middle class caravan is available in three lengths: 520, 538 and 603 centimeters. The width amounts 219 cm. Customers can choose from four interior layouts with two, three or four sleeping places. An interesting is a double bed in some variants – it can be easily divided into two beds. In most versions, caravan’s load capacity amounts 290 kg (GVW - 1300 kg).
The offer closes with Grey Line - a luxurious caravan, in which we find rounded furniture and stainless steel elements. A characteristic feature of this model is also a toilet located in the separate room than the shower. This model comes in only one version with four beds. Its capacity impressive - amounts 460 kg (GVW is 1700 kg). The length of the caravan amounts 541 cm and the width – 259 cm.
For those, who prefer colors
The basic models are available in white and gray. Boring! So where are these personalization options mentioned at the beginning?
Well, the brand Kip is also linked to a much newer brand - Shelter, aimed at a young audience. It gives the possibility to order a caravan in almost any color, and if someone wants to, he can also print any motive on it. You just have to provide a picture in a sufficiently high resolution, so the designers can put it on the caravan!
Shelter also offers different options of equipment, thanks to which Kip is adapted to transport motorcycles, bikes or surfboards. And at the same time the caravan will also serve as a mobile home. In this way, the Dutch shall ensure that, despite the modest basic offer, their products will meet even high expectations of active Europeans.
