HYMER gives its customers space: more flexible interior design with slide-out concepts

HYMER presents the first results of its market research survey on the theme of "slide-out". In close co-operation with AL-KO, Promobil and the end customer, the premium manufacturer from Bad Waldsee has developed new concepts for motorhomes which enable a flexible extension of the interior.

More living space at the touch of a button: until now, slide-out systems could only be found in top of the range, luxury motorhomes. Here, it was the more compact models and their owners who would particularly benefit from a flexible extension of the interior.

For this reason HYMER, in co-operation with AL-KO and ProMobil, lauched a market research survey in the last year and subsequently developed a new slide-out concept based on the HYMER lightweight design which primarily concerns motorhomes of the lower weight categories. "The basic idea of the innovative system is to offer our customer a vehicle of less than 3.5 tons in which the living space can be extended as desired. At the same time the space should be usable in an unrestricted way, even when the slide-out is retracted." says Rainer Wingart, product manager at HYMER and adds "It is part of our philosophy to continually develop innovative products which are specifically tailored to the individual requirement of our customers."

In December of last year, as part of a competition, ProMobil readers could submit their slide-out ideas directly via a layout configurator. In this way the customers were directly involved in the development process. Thanks to the healthy levels of participation – with a total of 340 designs – many novel and exciting ideas were gathered at first hand.

The winning design – with over 7,100 votes – received an award at this year's CMT. The innovation laboratory at HYMER subsequently developed viable solutions and implemented these in the form of two functional models, each with different slide-out concepts. An extendable rear enables the space-saving placement of a queen-size bed while a laterally extendable bay transforms the four person dinette into a comfortable U-shaped seating group. The development of these two solutions, which allow the interior to be extended by up to 65 centimetres, means that HYMER can offer its customers more space and comfort without having to compromise on the advantages of light and compact motorhomes.

At the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon 2015 the two functional models will be presented to the public for the first time.
