Put a couple of highly expected premieres, and then pour a greasy and dense mass of concept cars – that’s how a recipe for Geneva International Motor Show could look like. Camprest.com have picked out a few sweetmeats from the big cake of Geneva 2014.
84th Geneva International Motor Show is one of the most important automotive events in the world. This year's edition was open from 6 to 16 March. What interesting things have manufacturers shown? It’s impossible to describe all the news, so we chose some that in our opinion are the most interesting.
Among the brands presenting “ordinary” cars, that we’ll surely see on the streets of Europe, it’s worth to focus on Audi. The German manufacturer refreshes the whole range of his models. The new line of the body is more aggressive, and a huge grille makes it look more sporty.
Model TT perfectly fits in this trend. It’s no longer a rounded creature. Especially the front has become more sharp, which is due not only to the huge grille, but also angular lights. Inside, instead of the usual display, we’ll find a 12,3 inches screen, which, instead of the typical indicators can display a navigation map in the foreground.
Audi TT will be sold with three four-cylinders and a turbocharged, direct-injection engine.
Face-lifting of Ford Focus arouses interest, especially because of the appearance. This is another model, right after Fiesta, with the front part resembling Aston Martin. And such car, for the price of a compact car, may enjoy a considerable success.
BMW 2 Active Tourer
A bigger surprise, however, may be BMW 2 series, also marked as Active Tourer. Who has expected the next car with sporting aspirations, could feel a bit disappointed. The new BMW is a family van with a length of 4,34 m and a height of 1,55 m. Basic engine of the compact BMW is a three-cylinder, 1,5 unit with 136 HP.
Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake
The segment of family cars has even attracted the attention of Jaguar. The British manufacturer of luxury cars presented the model XFR-S Sportbrake in Geneva – which is a combi. Stiffened suspension and 5-liter, V8 engine with 550 HP, are not the only distinguishing features of the vehicle.
The advantages also include an 8-speed automatic transmission and disc brakes with a diameter of 380 mm (front) and 376 mm (rear). 20-inch wheels only intensify the aggressive look of the vehicle, which in Poland can cost around 550 000-600 000 PLN (120 000-142 000 EUR).
Among the smallest cars, the new Citroen C1 distinguishes the most. Stylistically, the car is quite bold (it’s hard to call it pretty), the shape of its body may resemble SUV (of course, in micro version).
The car will be powered by 1.0 VTi engine with 68 HP (with manual and automatic transmission) and 1.2 VTi engine with 82 HP. The smaller engine will be available with the start-stop system.
Peugeot 308 - Car of the Year 2014
It wasn’t premiere. However, when discussing cars presented in Geneva, it would be hard not to mention Peugeot 308, which, right at that event, was acclaimed the Car of the Year 2014. The title Car of the Year was given by 58 automotive journalists from all over the world, 22 of which voted just for Peugeot.
The judges appreciated the appearance and comfort of driving, but this time especially important were the economic and ecological aspects. Peugeots 308 distinguish themselves with low fuel consumption, and the engine BlueHDi 1.6 with 120 HP will soon come into production. It emits just 82 grams of CO2 per kilometer. This, in turn, makes it a unique environmentalist.
The most interesting concept vehicles shown in Geneva will be described in a separate article.
