Switzerland is famous not only for banks, railways, cheese and clocks. It also owes its popularity to ski resorts, including Laax – one of the favorite places of freestyle adherents.

Holidays among mountain peaks is the dream of many skiers. Those, who love winter and snow, will be really pleased with the stay in the Swiss resort Laax, located in Glarus Alps. The diversity of local ski runs provides a great fun for all skiers, and rises a real delight among freestyle adherents. And here they are able to show off their talents! The resort consists of the resorts Laax, Falera and Flims – three amazingly beautiful centers located in even more beautiful mountain scenery.

Laax – skiing offer

The region offers over 235 km of perfectly prepared slopes. They consists of 19% of green, 29% of blue, 31% of red and 21% of black slopes. The longest descend measures 11 km.

All the slopes are connected by the system of lifts, the most famous of which is a 6-seater, Lavadinas-Fuorcia Sura. It has heated seats – on the back of each seat there are sun collectors. A distinguishing feature of the lift are its automatic, 45 degrees rotations, thanks to which you can admire the beautiful panorama of the resort.

Laax also offers over 55 km of tracks for cross-country skiing, 60 km of winter trails for hiking and 2 for sledding. The resort also has a modern curling hall, dozens of equipment rentals and 2 ski playgrounds for kids.

Winter craze in Laax

One of the biggest attractions of the resort are country’s best freestyle areas. Snowboard adherents can choose between 4 snow parks which are equipped in the biggest halfpipe in Europe, numerous rails and jumps, as well as freestyle ski slope, leading from Crap Sogn Gion to Curnius. Not too many resorts can boast of such wide offer.

Right next to the lower station in Laax you can find a Freestyle Academy – Europe’s first freestyle indoor hall. It’s a real paradise both for beginners, as well as for more experienced adherents of this kind of sport. Here they can practice all kinds of tricks throughout the year – be it on skis, snowboard, skateboard or bike.

Ticket prices in Laax in the season 2013/2014

Unfortunately, when it comes to the prices of ski passes, they are pretty high. But what can you do – the local ski runs are second to none, while the alpine landscapes breathtaking not only for winter sports enthusiasts. Whoever comes here, won’t regret it.

1-day ticket for an adult costs 61 EUR, while for the ticket for kids we’ll pay 21 EUR. For the possibility of skiing the slopes for 6 days you will pay 342 EUR for an adult and 114 EUR for a child. Those opting for a 14-day ticket will pay, respectively, 742 and 248 EUR.

A place you’d love to stay in

Skiers, who would like to come to Laax with their own motorhome, can get acquaint with the offer of one of the local guesthouses, hotels as well as campsites. In the very heart of the resort is located Camping Flims, where you will pay 8 CHF (about 6,5 EUR) per day for the accommodation for an adult, and 5 CHF for a kid. For the position of your vehicle you will pay 15 CHF per day. One of the campsite’s numerous advantages is the fact, that guests have the possibility to order delicious breakfasts.

Each year Laax attracts thousands of skiers, snowboarders, as well as “ordinary” tourists. Apart from great slopes, it also tempts with 20 mountainous restaurants, 33 clubs and bars with the whole range of other attractions. Looking at the palette of all entertainments, beauty of the scenery and exquisite, local cuisine, you could forgive that high prices.
