The largest amusement park in Spain is located next to Salou, the resort loved by water sports enthusiasts and families with children. The lively resort has been attracting tourists to Costa Dorada - not just British, attracted by the proximity of the airport.
A few kilometers from Tarragona and dozens of kilometers from Barcelona is Salou, called the capital of the Golden Coast. It’s also referred to as the pearl of Costa Dorada, which can be seen especially in the number of successful resort shops and boutiques, restaurants and hotels. When we add to this the real pride of the town - the beautiful Playa de Llevant with a length of approx. 1200 and a width of approx. 70 meters, multimedia fountains presentations which are loved by amazed tourists and great conditions for sports (not only water), we’ll understand, why Salou is so crowded.
The pearl of Costa Dorada
Salou offers so many attractions that it would be difficult to pick up the most important. First of all, it’s loved by young people, attracted by the number of clubs where you can party till you drop. In the city you can also find Port Aventura, the largest amusement park in Spain and sixth in terms of the number of visitors in Europe. It’s divided into several themed lands, and its main attractions include the Dragon Khan - the biggest roller coaster in Europe.
The resort also tempts with sandy beaches with gentle descent to the sea, so that the second group of adherents are families with children. The shore is shallow and the water delights with purity (Blue Flag status).
In Salou tourist can enjoy kitesurfing, windsurfing, scuba diving, water skiing, sailing (we can rent the equipment on Playa de Cala Font), try banana water riding or enjoy a boat trip.
The beaches of Salou
Playa de Llevant is open to all tourists, including those with disabilities, who may use many amenities. The main beach of the resort has also a special corner for children where they can play with peers. There we can also find rentals of beach and sports equipment.
Second, in terms of interest, is Poniente, natural beach with amazing, powdery sand. It has a playground for children, delicate descent to the sea and also a separate swimming pool, where our kids can have fun to their hearts content.
Near to the center of Salou extends Playa de Eld Capellans, a small beach with perfectly developed infrastructure. It’s also facilitated with sports equipment rentals.
Playa de Cala Llenguadets lies in a picturesque cove, is very romantic and intimate, and the surrounding lush vegetation provides the best atmosphere for relaxation. It can only be reached on foot, just like Playa de Penya Tallada.
It also worth visiting Playa de Platja Llarga, a beach near Tarragona, surrounded by pine trees. In addition to sports and beach equipment you can rent a hammock. It’s located next to the Càmping Platja Llarga, a family campsite where you can come with the dog.
Where to stay in Salou?
As you can see, amateurs of travelling with their own motorhome don’t have to worry about finding accommodation. Both in the area of the resort, as well as in Salou we can find several campsites, including Camping La Siesta. Depending on the season for 2 persons, place for the vehicle and access to the electricity we’ll pay from 28 to 69.50 euros per night.
In the tourist center of Catalonia nobody will be bored. The resort has courts for basketball, volleyball and football, tourists can also play tennis, use golf courses and public swimming pool. The water is very warm and the sand clean and powdery – everything you need on holiday.
