Kleine Scheidegg-Mänlichen Ski Resort
One of the three famous ski resorts, located at the foot of three mountain ranges. Its name consists of three parts: the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen. It’s a great fun multiplied by three!
German is not an easy language, but it’s definitely worth learning. Even for that, to be able to easily pronounce the name of one of the three famous ski resort located at the foothills of the so-called "Alpine Trinity", or mountain massifs of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch. It’s the resort Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen, located in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. Along with the Mürren-Schilthorn and Grindelwald-First it creates one of the most popular Swiss ski resorts - Interlaken & Jungfrau.
All three centers can be easily reached by trains from Interlaken. And it must be emphasized, that the Swiss railways enjoy a well-deserved reputation of fast transport, they’re reliable and beautiful, not to mention the views that can be admired through its windows. The railway, which reaches Kleine Scheidegg, provides visitors an unforgettable experiences. People can get the impression that they are not riding, but flowing over the railway tracks. This impression is further emphasized by the fact that the passing scenery is breathtaking. You can fall into a reverie. In contrast, a cog railway from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch (the highest situated railway station in Europe) is considered a legendary today.
The entire resort offers visitors a myriad of different types of entertainment. Except, of course, hundreds of trails for skiers and snowboarders, there are also attractions for those, who opt for a strong injection of adrenaline. Number one is zorbing, or rolling down the slope in a large transparent sphere. Located in a close vicinity to Interlaken town of Wilderswil offers visitors the possibility to roll in the snow throughout the year. The region also enables tourists to try skydiving, during which they will see that time is actually a relative term - it will be the longest 40 seconds of free fall in life. The adherents of high altitudes will be absolutely amazed by the opportunity to admire breathtaking views of lakes and peaks during paragliding.
Speaking of Kleine Scheidegg, we couldn’t forget about the pass lying at the foot of the Eiger North Face, which is a challenge even for the most experienced climbers. It wasn’t reached until the 30's of last century, but before then it had taken a heavy toll of lives of those, who dared to face it. After all, it’s the highest rock and ice wall in the Alps (1800 meters high), for years known as Mordwand, or Wall of Death. Being in Kleine Scheidegg, you can watch climbers through a telescope.
Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen constitutes a central ski area, called Jungfrau Top Ski Region. You can get there not only by train (from Grindelwald and Wengen), but also by cable cars. And when we add 5 t-bars and 9 chair lifts, we’ll get an attractive offer tempting masses of skiers from different countries each year. The total length of all slopes is 110 km, and they are divided into 9 blue, 9 red and 5 black. Among the latter, really famous is Lauberhorn Weltcup Abfahrt, designed for people who feel really confident on skis.
Snow enthusiasts can either enjoy skiing on one or two boards, or try sledding. The latter enjoys a great success in the region, and the area offers 4 long and beautiful trails.
Ski pass prices in the season 2013/2014
Skiers will feel here like in a paradise. They can use kilometers of slopes, interconnected by a network of lifts, ski buses running regularly and the opportunity to buy one ski pass for several resorts. Those, who decided to ski in Jungfrau Ski Region - Kleine Scheidegg - Männlichen - Wengen won’t get bored even for a second.
In high season ticket prices are as follows: 1-day ticket for an adult costs 63 CHF (52 EUR), for a kid – 32 CHF (27 EUR), while for seniors 57 CHF (47 EUR). For the opportunity of exploring the slopes for 6 days a skier will pay 291 CHF (240 EUR). The ticket for a child costs 146 CHF (120 EUR), while seniors will pay 262 CHF (215 EUR).
An additional attraction of the region, tempting enthusiasts of a good fun on snow, are concerts SnowpenAir (on Kleine Scheidegg) organized at the end of the season. Besides, visitors can participate in ski safari, crazy sleigh ride, climbing the ice and try sleeping in the igloo village.
Guesthouse, hotel or a campsite?
The resort boasts of not only modern ski centers, but also an excellent tourists infrastructure. No wonder, such place attracts thousands of tourists each year, who want to spend holidays in a beautiful place surrounded by mountain peaks and amazing lakes. Here you will find a large number of hotels and guesthouses, as well as plenty of campsites. Owners of motorhomes can get acquainted with the offer of Camping Lazy Rancho Interlaken. The adult will pay 8 CHF (7 EUR), children – 4,8 CHF (4 EUR). The price for a vehicle ranges from 14- 34 CHF (12 – 28 EUR). At the campsite, tourists have a free access to showers and Wi-Fi, as well as to a swimming pool, store and restaurant that serves delicious local meals. You can bring your pet here – it will cost about 3 CHF (2,50 EUR) per day in high season.
Interlaken is one of the many towns in the region, which is really worth a visit. It’s one of the first towns that became famous of its ski offer and amazing scenery of the lakes. It’s surrounded by waters of Brienz and Thun, and currently pulsates with life not only during season. In local hotels you will find massage and Spa salons, swimming pools, while on the streets - a whole bunch of restaurants and boutiques. The city is very gladly visited by movie stars from Bollywood. Who knows, maybe during your holiday you will have the opportunity to see some colorful and dancing movie set?
You can also stop at the village of Wengen, however, you have to be aware, that this town is a traffic free zone. You can reach here through a chairlift from Lauterbrunnen (where you can park your car). It’s a perfect place for winter sunbathing – the village is located over the Lauterbrunnen valley, on a terrace at the foothills of Jungfrau. The architecture of the town consists of beautiful wooden houses and hotels from belle epoque. From Wengen you can easily get to the terrains of Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen, so it’s worth to consider the accommodation in this place.
