What’s the most fashionable ski resort in Spain? It’s Baqueira-Beret, a place in which the Spanish king spends summer, while in winter skiers go wild on the slopes of all levels of difficulty.
If you want to ski, you don’t have to limit yourself to Austria or Switzerland. You can as well go to Spain, especially when you choose the resort that is considered the most prestigious ski center in the Iberian Peninsula - Baqueira-Beret. It’s located in the beautiful Val d'Aran, in the very heart of the Pyrenees. In winter, skiers come here from all over the country, while in the summer the resort is visited by the King of Spain himself.
Regardless of what time of the year we will visit Baquiera-Beret, its beauty will delight us. Houses made of wood and stone, with roofs covered with natural slate, amazing views of the Pyrenees peaks and picturesque valleys - all this creates an extremely climatic whole, full of charm typical only to this region. After a day of skiing on the slopes you can relax in cozy and stylish restaurants, or in one of the many pubs located in the center, as well as in other towns of the valley.
Baquiera-Beret ski resort – the offer
The most famous Spanish ski resort is located on the border of France, Catalonia and Aragon, about 80 km from Andorra. Lifts are located at an altitude of 1500-2520 m. There are 33 of them, including 20 chair lifts, 5 t-bars, 7 magic carpets for beginners and a 9-seater gondola. A modern system consisting of 608 snow cannons guarantees perfectly prepared slopes.
Ski runs, with the total length of 120 km, are thrown like a bridge over the river between the three towns: Bonaiqua, Beret and Baquiera. Skiers will find here 36 of blue, 29 red, 6 green and 7 black tracks. The resort also provides a good entertainment for the fans of freeride and snow skiers - the latter can enjoy a 7-kilometer track. The enthusiasts of more advanced snow stunts will be pleased when they see the equipment of the local snow park. They will be equally pleased by a slalom slope with FIS homologation.
Three Spanish sisters
The center of the resort constitute Baqueira, situated at an altitude of 1500 m. It has the biggest number of hotels, from which a gondola lift may take you to the peak Cap de Baqueira.
At a height of 1,850 meters is located a ski lift, which takes skiers to the top of Tue deth Dossou. It’s the area of Beret, a place most suitable for beginners. They have a few gentle slopes on an extensive plateu at their disposal. Here we can also meet cross-country skiers.
The third town is Bonaiqua, located at the foot of Cap de la Puella, at an altitude of 1900 m. From here extends a magnificent view of the whole valley, and the tracks are very diverse, ranging from blue Pleta del Duc, through red Les Paletes, ending with a black La Palla Grau. Of course, we can’t skip the track Geber, which is designed exclusively for the fans of freeride.
