Croatia has many places to relax on the rugged coast, and one of them is Premantura, lying to the south of Istria. It’s adored by lovers of nature and peaceful sunbathing. It tempts with an incredible clarity of water and the charm of rocky coves.
Premantura is a small town in the southern part of Istria. From summer to late autumn attracts tourists with excellent conditions for windsurfing. In late October, it hosts a large event dedicated to this type of sport – called Hallowind. Amateurs of acrobatics on the foaming waves come here the different countries to win the IFCA European Freestyle Championships.
The gem of Premantura - Cape Kamenjak
But above all, Premantura tempts with peace and intimacy. To the south of the town extends Cape Kamenjak, a protected area with a length of 9.5 km and a width of 1.5 km. Its coastline is fancifully jagged. Battles between waves and coast have created a lot of rocky coves and beaches with very austere surface which can cause pain when walking on it barefoot. Despite this, vacationers really like to rest there.
In addition to a diverse coast, the landscape distinguishes itself with a unique wealth of flora. We find here approx. 530 species of plants, including 20 varieties of orchids.
Overnight at the edge of Istria
Accommodation base of this part of the peninsula is focused on private pensions, and several well-equipped campsites. Also a lighthouse standing on a small island offers accommodation. In the summer, it’s visited by weary travelers, who want to feel as if they were alone in the world.
People, who prefer accommodation on the campsite can stay in one of the aforementioned objects. In the town of Pula there’s Camping Brioni, where 2 people can sleep for 67-117 PLN (15 – 26 EUR, the price includes an access to electricity and motorhome/caravan). The campsite is located in a beautiful place, surrounded by pine trees, not far from the National Park Brijuni. Offers guests a range of facilities – it has, among others, a market, kiosk, two bars and a restaurant.

With a view to Medulin
Guests of the campsite can enjoy a great view of the bay of Medulin. In his spare time, you can visit the city of the same name. In the past it was a fishing village, but today is a popular seaside resort with extensive tourist infrastructure. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, as well as vines and olives cultivation. In the season it’s crowded and noisy, unlike intimate Premantura where life thrives more around the central square than on the beach.
Only in a few places in Europe water is so clear and has such a wondrous shade of blue and green as on the southern edge of Istria. Some even say that this color of the sea cannot be found in any other place of the globe. You should visit Premantura to understand why surfers love this place.
