English Lake District

Which place in Europe are visited by almost 18 million tourists from all over the world each year? Where are the lakes, forests, glacial valleys and mountains with built-in stone villages? In the northwest of England, in the 55 km2 part of the National Park, stretches the Lake District - the Lake District. It is famous for its picturesque, treeless views of slightly mountainous meadows, among which nature has scattered narrow moraine lakes and stone dumps.

It is a beautiful, exceptionally picturesque region with 16 lakes among the steep slopes of the mountains. The largest are Windermere (also the largest and deepest lake in England), Derwentwater, as well as Thirlmere and Bassenthwaithe. According to many people, the Lake District ranks second on the list of the most beautiful places in England - just behind the Scottish Highlands it is considered the most beautiful place on the island.

Attractions of the Lake District

It is a magical place that combines all the elements of the landscape. Lovers of mountains, lakes and valleys will find a respite here. The beauty of the land was celebrated by artists, including both painters and poets - the group of lake poets included, among others, Robert Southey and William Wordsworth. The entire area is associated with the eighteenth-century precursors of romanticism in poetry. On the other hand, the author and illustrator of the children's novel Beatrix Potter, inspired by the beauty of the lakes, contributed to the creation of the Lake District National Park.

The Lake District is one of the most popular resting places among the British. Surrounded by mountains, tempting with numerous water complexes, it attracts thousands of people seeking contact with nature. Tourists most often visit Windermere, Keswick and Ambleside. The region is so popular that in the summer season it is difficult to find accommodation not only in a hotel, but also on a camping site. Therefore, the only sensible solution for people planning to experience these wonderful landscapes is to reserve a place up to a month in advance.

Lake District and Stone Circles

Although the magnificent landscape is the main attraction of the Lake District, you can also find the stone circles typical of the whole of Great Britain. The largest of them is called Castlerigg Stone Circle and is situated on Keswick, a hill surrounded by the Lake District mountains. The mysterious circle consists of 38 huge, irregularly shaped boulders, and their height is over 1.5 meters. It is probably older than the famous Stonehenge - the age of the circle is estimated at over 5.2 thousand. years.

However, the land itself is a real paradise for fans of water sports. Kitesurfing and canoeing enthusiasts as well as cyclists will find a field to show off here. For the latter, there are numerous routes with a full range of difficulties - both for quiet family outings and for extreme descents, where you can feel the wind in your hair and speed. Amateurs of light and high mountain climbing will also not be disappointed, not to mention hikers who have countless hiking trails ahead. It's not everything. Visitors to the Lake District can go horseback riding in the beautiful countryside, go fishing by the lake or play golf.

Which camping to choose?

It's worth coming to the Lake District at any time of the year. The variety of activities that we can afford in this beautiful region fascinates and delights. One of the places to stay is at the Fisherground Campsite (Fellside Cottage, Eskdale, Umbria CA19 1TF). It is a family friendly camping with pets (although dogs must be kept on a leash at all times). You can also make fires here, but only in designated places. An adult will pay £ 6.50 per night on this campsite, a child's accommodation costs £ 3.50, and a place for a vehicle - £ 4.00.

Another campsite worth recommending (though more expensive) is Lake District Caravan & Camping at Gill Head Farm. Two people who came with a motorhome will pay £ 20.00 per night. The campsite has a grocery store, as well as a small restaurant where you can order, among others. takeaway breakfast. We have a choice of grassy and paved parking spaces, in addition, modern bathrooms and a laundry room are at the guests' disposal. We can also come here with a dog. Lake Ullswater is 5 km from the campground and the nearest town is Keswick on the Derwentwater shores.

A stay in the Land of Lakes will soothe the soul, calm down and allow every tourist to fully relax. We will return home happy and refreshed, to start work and new duties with renewed energy. After all, it is not without reason that English landscape artist John Constable called the Lake District "the most beautiful landscape in the world."
