St. Moritz from Switzerland

St. Moritz is touted as one of the most famous resorts in the world. Is it right? Undeniably, and why, it remains to be seen. Let's start with the fact that it is located in the Swiss city of Graubünden, at an altitude of 1,856 m above sea level, on the lake of the same name, and the history of skiing and winter sports began right here. The stories about this resort often repeat the phrase "first in Switzerland", and even "first ever": the first ice rink in the world, the first Alpine city with an electric tram, the first Swiss ski school ... In a word, history owes a lot to St. Moritz, and cultural and sports events attract famous and rich people from the so-called big world (athletes, showbiz stars, politicians).

Ski runs

St. Moritz stretches along picturesque lakes in the Upper Engadine Valley. It consists of three interconnected sectors: Corvatsch, Diavolezza and Corviglia, between which you can freely travel by train or ski buses. Skiers have at their disposal 3 snow parks, 57 lifts and 350 km of ski runs (18 blue, 61 red and 9 black), the longest of which is a 10 km freeride run from the Diavolezza summit over the Morteratsch Glacier. There are 180 km of cross-country trails along the entire valley - including one of the world's most beautiful cross-country marathon trails, the Engadin Ski Marathon. In addition, the Engadin is located on the southern side of the Alps, which gives it an exceptional number of sunny days a year (322), which is Switzerland's record.

The most popular routes are those on the southern slopes at the foot of the Piz Nair glacier. There is an Olympic piste where you can admire the view of Lake Moritzer. On the slopes of Corviglia, on the other hand, there are several luxury restaurants, including Mathis Food Affairs, which specializes in pizza with truffles. At the top of Corvatsch there is the highest restaurant in the region with a panoramic terrace. Diavolezza, on the other hand, is one of the few places where the lifts are open at full moon. You can ski on unlit slopes with a dark sky overhead - surely many avid skiers will take advantage of this opportunity. Additionally, every Friday, throughout the winter season, a Snow Night Party is organized on the longest slope in Europe (6 km). The fun lasts until 2 am.

Ski passes for St. Moritz

As the resort is prestigious and considered by many to be expensive (too expensive), hotel owners have met the needs of the so-called ordinary tourists. Over 100 hotels joined the promotional campaign, under which guests have unlimited access to the ski slopes - the only condition is the purchase of at least 2 nights. However, if someone prefers to choose a season ticket on their own, they have a wide choice. For example, for 1 day of driving on the Corvatsch or Corviglia slope you have to pay CHF 73 (because the euro exchange rate changes every day, the prices of tickets are given in Swiss francs), you must remember that day, morning and afternoon tickets are valid only within one area. On the other hand, buying the Engadin Pass opens access to all the slopes of the region and costs CHF 1045 for an adult, CHF 697 for youth (aged 13-17) and CHF 348 for a child.

Campsites

If you want to spend your vacation a bit more economically, you can do it in another way - instead of using the hotels offer, you can come to St. Moritz in his own motorhome. A good choice would be to come to Camping Madulain (7523 Madulain GR). Here, a car seat in the winter season costs CHF 6-7 / day, adults CHF 10.5, youth (12-16 years old) CHF 8, children CHF 4.50, and a dog CHF 3. The hypermarkets in La Punt Zuoz are within a walking distance (1.7 km) and the bus stop is right outside the campsite.

Those who choose Camping Gravatscha (7503 Samedan) will not be disappointed either. Here, adults pay CHF 12.5 per night, youth - CHF 8.5, and a child's night costs CHF 5. From St. Moritz camp site is only 5 km away, there is a restaurant and a shop on the grounds, the owners offer 24 places for motorhomes, there are also 9 wooden bungalows. All this is surrounded by an intimate forest.

Other attractions

The whole region is crowded with tourists, so it is understandable that the offer for them must be exceptionally rich. And it is like that, especially in the Upper Engadine: Celerina boasts the only natural bobsleigh track in the world, Scoul and Pontresina have hot geothermal spas, and St. Moritz, you can take the Bernina-Express and drive to Tirano, Italy, passing breathtaking alpine landscapes along the way. Every year in winter on the frozen Lake St. Moritz hosts horse races ("White Turf"), the resort also offers dog sled competitions, cricket, curling and polo tournaments. And although the prices are among the highest in the country, knowing all this, we begin to understand the advertising slogan of St. Moritz "Top of the Word".
