The heart of Ski amade - Flachau

In the middle of the Ski amade ski region there is a small alpine village that is part of the so-called the ski swing of the three valleys: Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann in Pongau. The ski runs are sunny from the early hours of the morning, and the resort itself is home to the World Alpine Ski Championships. It is also the hometown of Olympic champions - snowboarder Manuela Riegler and skier Hermann Maier.

Attractions of the region

It is Flachau, one of the main ski resorts in the Salzburger Land. After combining 5 smaller regions, which include 25 villages, a huge ski region has been created here, attracting thousands of fans of all kinds of winter sports every year, not only skiing. In total, in the entire Ski amade there are 860 km of ski slopes and 270 lifts. 177 km of slopes belong to Flachau, and the ski area covers 61 hectares. From the Flachauwinkel station, there is a chairlift towards Kleinarl, as well as gondola lifts towards Zauchensee, where there are slopes for more advanced skiers. Fans of hard skiing will also appreciate the area at Monte Popolo. It should be noted that most of the local routes are intended for people who like a more relaxed, even recreational ride.

The region, called the Snow Space Flachau, generates enormous revenues, so it's no wonder that it is still being expanded - for example, the Flachauer Bergbahnen has recently spent around 6 million euros to create new centers. Flachau has 130 snow cannons and 5 water reservoirs, and every night the slopes are re-snowed by a team of employees specially hired for this purpose. It is also worth adding that the longest and most modern chairlift in the world - Space Jet 3, an 8-seater miracle of technology - rides here.

Fans of one-ski madness will enjoy staying in one of the largest snow parks in Europe, the 1.5 km long Absolut Park in Flachauwinkl. Not only are there various types of events organized here, there is also a large halfpipe and jibpark for practicing descents. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts cannot be forgotten - there are also many interesting routes for them.

Passes

On the other hand, those who come to Flachau for skiing have three options: they can buy multi-day and seasonal Ski amade passes, which will allow them to use 800 km of slopes. The price of such a pass is 502 euro for an adult and 195 euro for a child. The second option is to buy the Salzburg Super Ski Card, which gives access to ski runs throughout the Salzburger Land (620 and 310 euros), and the third option will be perfect for a short stay - day passes for the Salzburger Sportwelt (price per day - 44 euros for an adult and 22 euro for a child). Due to the location of the resort (in the very center of Ski amade), skiers have an amazing choice of resorts. Not only during the day - the slopes in Bad Gastein, Flachau and Schladming are illuminated in the evening, so you can enjoy them even when there are no crowds.

Come in a camper van

Skiers, snowboarders and other snow lovers do not necessarily stay in hotels - they can also come here with a camper. In the very center of Salzburger Sportwelt you will find Camping & Gästehaus Passrucker (Altenmarkt-Zauchensee). In the period 1.11.2012-30.04.2013 the prices for the 1st day of stay are: EUR 8.70 for an adult, the same for a place for a vehicle, EUR 4.50 for a child under 12 (for a child aged 12-16 the cost of the stay is 5.90 euro / day), and for a dog - 1.70 euro. You can use the sauna and solarium here, another convenience is the possibility of thorough drying of clothes and shoes after all-day skiing on the routes. The free ski bus to the slopes stops 200 meters from the campsite.

Another motorhome site is also located in this area. It is Glonerbauer, only 150 meters from the Radstadt-Altenmarkt resort. The prices are EUR 9 / night for an adult and EUR 5 for a child aged 6-14. Within 10 minutes you can reach the center of Altenmarkt, and right next to the campsite there is a ski bus stop from which you can easily reach any resort in the valley. The routes of Flachau can be reached in no time.

It is impossible to ignore the rich apres-ski offer of the resort itself. As the village retains the typical atmosphere of an alpine village, it is full of taverns, wine bars and "classic" hotel restaurants. During the day, you can go shopping in one of the many shops or take advantage of the possibility of sunbathing on the sunny terraces. On the other hand, those who like to spend time actively can play tennis, squash or go sledding or skating (there are several ice rinks). The center has indoor swimming pools, saunas, and for those who like to dance, there are discos, bars and shepherds' huts open until the morning. The Snow Space Flachau region will meet even the most exorbitant - literally and figuratively - requirements of tourists, leaving them with a lot of nice memories. And, probably, the need to come back to this place.
